The International Organization for Migration (IOM), Zidicircle and the O-REMIT team are pleased to invite Belgian residents with Senegalese roots to become a “diaspora angel investor” for businesses in O-REMIT project
This activity takes place within the framework of the funded by the Belgian government and implemented by IOM in Belgium and Luxembourg in partnership with Zidicircle, Entrepreneurs for Entrepreneurs (OVO) and National Bank of Belgium. This project aims to offer diasporas in Belgium cost-effective alternatives for remittances and opportunities for investment of savings.
Zidicircle
With its years of experience in supporting diaspora entrepreneurs, investors and businesses, Zidicircle offers selected participants a training programme on how to invest in sustainable startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Senegal.
Qualifications & Requirements
Interested candidates should meet the following criteria:
- Be currently employed or having had past professional experience(s) or be the owner of a business;
- Have a strong interest in developing skills and experience as an investor;
- Be able to dedicate approximately 2 hours per week to an 8-week programme in the period of September 26th until November 23rd 2023;
- Be willing and able to invest a minimum of 1.000 euros in a selected startup or SME in Senegal;
- Be open to invest either individually or as a group.
Training content
As part of this programme, we want to bring together motivated, and passionate professionals with a broad interest in investment, entrepreneurship and venture capital space, ready to invest in selected businesses in Senegal.
Through our 8-weeks training programme, you will receive guidance and all the tools necessary to become a confident investor.
The programme will entail:
- In-depth bootcamp covering Angel l investing basics
- One-on-one Mentoring from experienced investors from OVO
- At Least 3 physical meetups in Brussels for a chance to network with peers and investor mentors
- Investing where they assemble their venture backers club and start investing together under our guidance and ecosystem deal pipeline
- Chance to become judges in the country specific SME pitch competition
- Joining the Zidicircle Coop-Diaspora investment vehicle and community to enable them invest
- Access to the Zidicircle Angel investing school online learning platform
The programme is built around 3 blocks:
At the end of the training programme, you will be able to:
- Identify and evaluate compelling investment opportunities;
- Develop own investment strategy;
- Draft a short investment memo (Term sheet);
- Select a small portfolio of investor-ready SMEs;
- Make first investments;
- Make cross border investments;
- Commit to invest in SMEs and startups directly.

Costs
FREE – The cost of this program is covered by the Belgian government.
However, training participants are considered future investors and must be able to commit a minimum of 1.000 euros for investing in a business of their choice from selected SMEs after completion of the programme. The 1.000 EUR will need to be deposited on a ‘blocked account’ to ensure compliance.
All the due diligence and investment support will be provided.
Competencies Acquired
At the conclusion of the above programming, the venture backers will have a broad latitude in identifying, evaluating, and engaging compelling investment opportunities. They will also be able to:
- Develop own investment strategy
- Draft a short investment memo (Term sheet)
- Select a small portfolio of investor ready Green SME’s
- Make first Investments
- Make Cross border investments
- Commit to invest in SME’s and startups directly
